 Adobe Acrobat

Some 490 million copies of the free Adobe Acrobat Reader software have been distributed worldwide since the product's 1993 introduction, allowing users to view and print Portable Document Format (PDF) files that maintain the intuitive look and feel of paper documents. Acrobat Reader has also provided government organizations, financial institutions, and other enterprises with a convenient way to freely distribute electronic versions of their paper forms, which users can easily view, fill in, and submit online.

But organizations need more functionality from their PDF forms if they are to meet new government paperwork reduction mandates, reduce forms processing costs, and create more efficient, new business processes. Adobe Document Server for Reader Extensions software takes PDF form workflows to the next level, allowing government agencies to provide constituents access to far greater functionality and flexibility with nothing more than the newest version of free Acrobat Reader software.

This product uses electronic forms designed with the Adobe Form Designer or other pdf-created forms.

 Adobe Document Server

Adobe Document Server software enables enterprises to dynamically create customized Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files in a flexible, scalable, robust server environment. Organizations can extend their enterprise applications by integrating Adobe Document Server to dynamically fill and extract data from Adobe PDF forms.

Designed for financial institutions, manufacturers and other large organizations, Adobe Document Server can automate the creation and assembly of technical manuals, brochures, proposals, and policies; customized electronic forms with pre-populated fields; business reports that contain charts and graphs dynamically generated from data in a database; and other content-rich Adobe PDF documents. Adobe Document Server can use templates; existing Adobe PDF, PostScript or EPS files; and/or XML (Extensible Markup Language) content to dynamically assemble new, customized Adobe PDF documents singularly or in volume, complete with tables-of-contents, renumbered pages, headers and footers, and more. With Adobe Document Server, organizations can increase efficiency, reduce document production and forms processing costs, and improve revenue potential and customer satisfaction by providing information tailored to individuals.

This product uses electronic forms designed with the Adobe Form Designer or other pdf-created forms.

Adobe Document Server for Reader Extensions

The Document Server for Reader Extensions solution consists of two pieces: the server software, which assigns additional usage rights to electronic forms created by PDF authoring programs such as Adobe Acrobat 5.0 and Adobe Form Designer, and the client software, Adobe Reader, which reads and allows access to the usage rights embedded in PDF forms.

Adobe Document Server for Reader Extensions allows the following additional usage rights to be applied to PDF forms:

  • The ability to save a form to a desktop for offline completion or archiving, without losing any form data. This also allows the form to be routed by e-mail, enabling ad-hoc automation of document-based processes for electronic transactions.
  • Review and commenting tools, including sticky notes, highlights, stamps, and strikethroughs, file or voice attachments. [note that only 'simple' annotations will be enabled in Adobe Reader 6.0... notes, highlight, strikethrough, and underline]
  • Digital signatures, including support for Public Key Infrastructure systems for third-party validation. Adobe provides a Self-Sign digital signature (at no additional charge) for wide distribution. Document Server for Reader Extensions also allows for multiple digital signatures on one document. Plugins are available from Verisign and Entrust, and others.
  • Advanced forms features, including the ability to submit a form offline without viewing in a web browser or via email, import or export form data from FDF or XFDF, and create new pages programmatically (spawning pages).

This product uses electronic forms designed with the Adobe Form Designer or other pdf-created forms.
